MisterH1827yMy fav is Arch Linux. Can be a handful to get it up and running though. Ubuntu, Debain or Fedora is also good :)

Mint is highly underrated. Very stable and no nonsense desktop for development. If you want things get done rather than run around mint is your thing. (Learnt it the hard way).
Yes mint does looks boring. -
holycode887yI like Antergos. Basically Arch with an easy installer. Nice package manager, rolling release and bleeding-edge.

Nothing but Arch Linux. Its fun installing and configuring. When you are done, its super stable, pacman is awesome, AUR are sweet.

RTRMS37897yI spent yesterday setting up Ubuntu just for that, did some pondering and realised I really didn't need Windows.

t4ils2447yYou should use Arch Linux. Did I tell you I use Arch Linux?
Jokes aside, Fedora or Ubuntu (including Linux Mint or any other Ubuntu flavor like MATE) should work fine. -
pily5297yIf you like the idea of Arch but you don't want to spend a whole day, the first time, just to learn how to install and maintain it, try out Manjaro. I used it for a while and it's great. It also pushed me to try the pure Arch experience which, until now, it's the best for me.

Depends what your aims are really - other people have already mentioned some of the more popular Linux distros, but each one comes with its own quirks that you are going to have to learn to cope with.
If you just want a Linux-like environment that you can be productive on with minimal fuss and can afford it, buy something running mac os.
There are dedicated mac os builds for everything these days and getting things installed is a cinch. I had my macbook pro set up in 5-10 mins and haven't had a single issue with the os yet, despite coding for around 8 hours a day every day for the last two months.
