I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.

    Well, unziprebel showed a lot of promise. Too bad it didn't take off

    I think it's a mixture of ignorance (not knowing better tools exist) and brand loyalty, even if it is proprietary and has ads.

    I still prefer WinRAR for it's features, but 7zip is getting closer and closer. In regards to actual archiving I do like 7zip, it's superior to both zip and rar, but rar is still good. In terms of support, I believe both WinRar and 7zip support pretty much every archive format.

    I agree. I've been using 7-Zip for years, and it's one of the most powerful programs of its kind.
