Recently I have lots of very unproductive days. I m just very tired and even coffee puts me to sleep at work. What's interesting is that as soon as I open something interesting on the web or start working on some new component it all goes away for an hour or so.

So I just wanted to ask you if you have weeks like this.

How can I get myself fixed :(

Thats why i love getting 6 weeks paid vacation :) Whenever i feel like i'm getting a bit tired i can take a few days off (just need to sync it with my client(s)) and still have several weeks left when summer comes around for a proper vacation.

There are ofcourse plenty of unproductive days but those are usually caused by meetings, interruptions, and insane noise.

@ItsNotMyFault 6 weeks? Do you get paid sufficiently? In which country? Did you break software development or something?

I get five weeks paid time off, but I have to use it any time I take time off from work, so it's for both vaca and sick time.

Loss of mojo? I fix this by thoroughly indulging myself for a couple of hours.

For example going to the cinema on a Tuesday morning. The point is not excess for me but to get that feeling of "doing something I'm not supposed to".

Somehow this mode enables me to get back on the horse without much trouble.

@g-m-f I managed to be born in a country where 5 weeks is the legal minimum for full time positions, getting an extra week isn't that uncommon.

    @g-m-f
    5 weeks = 25 days (weekends don't count)

And yes i get paid sufficiently, (not insanely great by international standards, but more than enough, around $70k(USD) / year). marginal income tax is a bit on the high side here so there isn't that much point in pushing for a higher salary (I'd much rather have my employer spend money on interesting conferences, buying in cool new tech for us to play with, etc)

@g-m-f that would be nice :)

I think most of europe has pretty decent paid vacations though, its just the US that sits at a 0 day minimum and 10 day average :) (poor creatures)

I had 21 work holidays in Ireland with 9 public holidays. Now I have 29 work holidays in Germany with 12 public holidays (i.e. second highest in Germany which is based on what region you are in). I am able to have a better work/life balance as a result.

Try "working from home" on a Monday or on a Friday , or hell both if you can

Throw in a sick day if needed, take some time to do something you like and come back fresh or at least a bit fresher

You might also wanna try setting mini goals the. Once you accomplish one of em reward yourself with a few minutes of non work stuff, i personally play a game or two of hearthstone, doesn't take much time and i go back to coding on dull maintenance crap.

If you cant game, then some
Short utube documentaries are pretty cool. I discovered i have a passion for lock picking after watching some dude called bosnian bill or something. So relaxing to iust listen to him

    Just keep the window tiny
