National Health Service (nhs) in the UK got hacked today... Workers at the hospitals could not access patient and appointment related data... How big a cheapskate you gotta be to hack a free public health service that is almost dying for fund shortages anyway...

I reckon it's a script kiddie, there is no way a real hacker would have put a $300 value on the data.

March 14 Windows 10 patch addressed this. Spread to 74 countries as of now.

I've been searching a way to know if a computer is vulnerable or not, do you have any idea?

Not to mention how many people actually died or were physically injured due to medical staff not having proper access to charting software and other inneficiencies or miscommunications.

Don't worry mate, now that you are leaving the EU you'll have a lot of spare cash to rebuild the NHS.

It was an international hack, lots of big companies of said countries were hacked. From what I've seen it was a ransomware spreading over an SMB vulnerability on Windows.

The sad truth is, the ransomeware author probably didn't target them specifically. It's a virus. Unfortunately, hospitals are more likely that not to be behind on software updates (including security updates) because of the risk an automatic update gone awry. "Defibrillator is installing updates... Please wait."

All kinds of systems went down and NHS probably was 'just' collateral damage. Not unlikely that some agency like NSA is involved.
