I'm using Ubuntu for C stuff but really can't see any major advantages. It's there something I'm missing? What do you prefer in Ubuntu over Windows?

Welcome to Linux! If Ubuntu isn't your thing there's always Korora (Fedora based), Antergos (Arch Based), or OpenSUSE (independent). And of course there are a whole mess of desktop environments to choose from as well, so if one isn't to your liking, you can always try another!
If you have any questions or want advice, just ask! There are plenty of Linux users around here who would be more than happy to help guide you through this wonderland! -
@polaroidkidd for me, it's just that sound works (there is no driver that supports audio over hdmi available), adb works without finicking around, it boots and shuts down a lot faster, it has a terminal so if something is broken I can fix it instead of reinstalling the os.

I got my XPS 13 with ubuntu preinstalled a few months ago. Since then I really love Linux for developing. (Mostly on VS Code)

I think Ubuntu is so much easier to use ONCE it's all set up to your likings. Don't get me wrong, configuring multiple monitors or having WiFi dying after waking up from sleep is not fun, and Windows does a much better job doing that out of the box. But once you are past that, setting up different compilers, CLI tools, local web servers, git, etc. is super easy.

I switched to using Ubuntu as my primary development environment about a month ago from Windows and I couldn't be happier! The initial setup was a pain in the neck (esp. display scaling issues, which Windows 10 is much better at than Ubuntu), but now that it's all set up, I'm lovin' it!
