My dad overdosed on drugs and my mother didn't give a shit what I got up to, though somehow I ended up getting a career I love. Nice to hear a story like this tho. 😃

sudouser6818yGood job!
Good to hear no college/university debt.
Did the same but took two year gap. -
afduarte5998yThat's great! If you like what you're doing, stick to it, it's not hard, you just have to like it. I'm sure you'll be very successful

Spee1098yTouching to see so many similar stories! After he bought a Pentium 75 for the family, my father was all disappointed that I didn't seem to be interested in it... If he could see me now, he'd be proud to see his investment paid off a thousandfold :)

I'm still coding on a mid-2009 MBP with 8GB RAM. A Mac will last you a fucking lifetime (if you're a dog... Or a hamster...)!
People are posting their setups so I thought I'd post this.
It's a 2012 MacBook Pro, 13 inch. I put 16GB ram and some solid state in there just so it gets the job done.
When I was a freshman in high school, my dad saw something in me that he believed in (and I didn't). He decided to put his money where his heart was. He told me that he would go out and buy me a computer, and I wouldn't have to pay him back, if I would work hard at programming to pay for my own college.
His investment payed off. I just graduated high school and started a job last week that will get me through college debt-free through the gap year that I'm taking. This machine's getting a little old, but it means a lot to me. It reminds me that my dad believed in me even when I didn't. 🖖🏼
