Sounds like you want a beefy workstation laptop (or a higher end gaming laptop) with a ton of ram, a lot of cores, and great cooling. A Helios or something, whatever the recent version is. I'd recommend waiting for a few months (if you can) to see what Intel's new Alder Lake processors are like. Also the new MacBook Pro with actual pro specs, which might come this fall if rumours are to be believed.
Also, Mac hate incoming in 3...2...1... -
sariel85343yYou want a desktop.
Don't waste your money on a Mac. You'll spend 3x the amount for a Mac than if you just buy a regular device. -
@xPanther I don't hate Mac, I use a MacBook Air M1 for a lot of stuff, but it's probably not the laptop you want, for various reasons including ram and core count. A big chunk of devRant hates everything Apple does though, the hate will be from them.

@xPanther sounds like it, yeah, especially if you want to run a lot of stuff like you say in your post. Just keep cooling in mind, a powerful processor is a useless brick if it keeps overheating.

sariel85343y@itzdevkou currently running an XPS 9550 with 32gb and a 6th gen i7.
It runs:
6 desktops, 4 chrome windows with about 20 tabs each, 10 consoles, 16 containers, and my editor.
The CPU never goes above 50% and I have only maxed my ram out once.
If you work with containers, get at least a 1tb drive. -

@Haxk20 I have access to a research cluster, a workstation at university, servers at university, and a workstation at home, all running Linux. More than enough Linux in my life :p
-
@Haxk20 how about a laptop with a Threadripper? Of course someone has made one https://hackaday.com/2021/01/...
-
sariel85343y@electrineer that Eldritch horror can barely claim to be a laptop.
Sick build though, but may God have mercy on our souls if a mate is made. -
john-doe9403y@Haxk20 I got a msi, ryzen 7, modded with 40gb RAM and dual ssds for less than 1700$. It took some research to find the one, but it was totally worth it.

Base laptop https://www.amzn.com/B08L55Y79G
Extra nvme drive https://www.amzn.com/B07K1HMMJC
Extra ram 32gb https://www.amzn.com/B08FBNQXC4
You'll have to do the parts upgrade yourself
And that cute little thing can host 2 32gig rams, so if your budget allows. You can get up to 64gbs
The laptop already comes with a 512 nvme, so just add the extra one and you'll be good to go.
