Thats a fireable offence on my team, no warnings just GTFO

I like calling it sequel, it takes seconds to say SQL while sequel can be said in less than a second. Time efficiency...

Yeah hate that indeed! I always say it like EsQueEl haha

While I personally like SQL better than sequel, there's actually a "right way" to pronounce it. Microsoft has sequel, while the language itself is pronounced SQL (originally it was called SEQUEL, which brought on legal issues and was then renamed to SQL). Various other implementations have their own rules - MySQL for instance is SQL, but they don't mind you calling it sequel (at least that's what it says in the documentation)

@Bikonja how dare you bring facts and evidence to a discussion about an irrational hatred

Oh my, God forbid someone would actually pronounce it correctly!

Sorry it's sequel server, you don't walk around saying I'm a JS programmer do you. The world is full of acronyms and hate let's not be bitter

Something about saying "sequel" sounds daft to me. On the other hand, I do pronounce XAML as "zammal".

@QoolQuy2000 I've heard xacml pronounced "zach-a-mole" it took me the whole conference call to figure out what they were talking about.

I call it sequel. Just like you say jayson, not J-S-O-N.

I've got recruiter email that actually spelled it "sequel".

I th@Letmecode maybe it is void or maybe I just didn't get my point across "no one really cares" in the same way no one cares about the pronunciation of potato, tomato etc everyone is different and I can never be arsed to say "Structured Query Language" or S.Q.L. Because everyone I work with understands what I'm talking about whether I pronounce it seekwell or sequel or S.Q.L.

Never once in an interview have I been asked how I pronounce it, if they did I'd probably walk out.

Life is too short to worry about such things spend time with family or something not worrying about how you pronounce stuff

@philcr ... I bet you say jif too don't you

@practiseSafeHex gif say what you see, the only people I have heard say jif are web devs and americans
