    instead of libraries that does every single thing for them.

    I get your point.. but you do know that there were other search engines before Google though, right?

    And there were communities online too, on bulletin boards and IRC they could still ask others for feedback on how they fixed a particular error and why it happened. But yeah, mostly the hard thinking part
