I am 100% sure ive seen another rant thats about exactly this kind of rant but i cant seem to find it.

Exactly my thoughts in university. I mean math itself is cool and very important but why do I have to learn hundreds of analysis theorems, definitions and proofs if I want to become a programmer? This shit is the single reason why I find uni very difficult and annoying. More like education sucks ass.
I mean I get it, there are fields in programming where math is important, but not every programmer needs advanced math ffs. -
@SparkyTD programming is a field of industry where you don't really need higher education to begin with. If you study CS, then there's no way you can avoid higher maths. Why? CS is a branch of maths. Hell, real analysis and discrete maths are pretty damn important here.
-
@dontPanic Discrete maths is actuallynot that bad. My main enemy is analysis. Especially the way it is thought at my uni. I just don't see any use for it in real world programming. And in the past I have made things like laser projectors and game engines from scratch and of course I didn't need any analysis. This is the kind of stuff I want to do after I get out of uni so it is annoying that I have to learn stuff I won't even need.
-
@SparkyTD yeah, you're not gonna need analysis for programming projects, but remember that CS is much more than programming. It's just like studying maths. You may not see the real applications of the theorems and lemmas you learn to use, but if you become a scientist or researcher (hence Computer Science), then maybe it will help you gain understanding of a new topic in your field. I too may be very well naive and mistaken, but let's not confuse programming with the whole CS. [funny img to release the tension]

Yeah well of course I suck at it, that's why i don't like it?😂
But thanks for all the not-asked-for input. -
@VaderNT wtf is this page. If we think like that everything boils down to having sex with each other. Because that made the people able to invent shit.
So how about instead of math we teach the fucken kamasutra? -
@gitlog oh crap I didn't realise its not translatable. Uhh you have to believe me it's funny. It's a weird ass combinations of Polish/Czech or smth similar.
Dog police: police, talk.
Dog: my ball rolled under the sofa
Dog police: have you tried barking at it?
Dog: didn't work
Dog police: darn it
Dog: darn it -
Yes.
I'mma say it... I'm a developer who absolutely HATES math. I can't stand math. Any of it.
Is it important? Yeah. Can it be cool sometimes? Sure. Does that mean I have to like it? I think the fuck not.
Fuckmath :)
Also yes. I'm terrible at it. I can never wrap my head around math. Working with numbers pisses me off. Working with letters and fancy symbols in the mix pisses me off even more.
The only thing in the world that makes math bearable to me is programing. I can only understand math in the context of development. Yeah I know that sounds weird but math makes sense to me when I need it to make something. Especially since I work mostly in games and I can visualize it and interact with the math. Math as equations and theories on a white board or in a textbook though... NOPE.
Sorry for the rant. Math was my worst enemy at school. And it often still is. No offense to math lovers ^_^
But it's definitely not for me.
Math sucks ass
