Article 13 has gone through.
If you have a startup idea, move outside the EU to avoid millions of dollars of copyright fines.

Get the memes, get tor, get vpns, research how people get around the great firewall of china, because the EU just asked china to hold its beer.

I pity whoever's job it is to implement this piece of shit.

First off the first three years this law does not apply to you. Secondly the location of the service does not matter. Google still has to comply with these laws in Europe even though they are are US based.

@Codex404 Because they have divisions in Europe. The EU may try to impose laws upon US citizens as much as the EU wants, but the US won't let them enforce it.

@Fast-Nop devRant can get fined for GDPR issues too. I dont know what sanctions can be given if fines are not paid though.

@Codex404 so what? devRant could also get fined from Saudi-Arabia because women are allowed to post without consent of their husbands.

@Fast-Nop I'll come back when Ive read the text to see what can happen.

    Goodbye europosters (:

@FrodoSwaggins I know it is impossible to implement. If a fair use is discutable how does a filter see what is fair use or not?

@Codex404 fair use is part of US copyright and has never been applicable in Europe.

Oh no! Not my fucking memes!

@Fast-Nop how sure are you about that? At least article 13 is about that. The filters cannot allow Frozen (when not licensed) but they are allowed to pass sections of the movie in a review.

@Codex404 that's not about fair use, that's about quoting for the purpose of analysis. Fair use in the US comprises quite a bit more.
