Hey devs!😀

Will drinking coffee help you reduce your sleeping hours?
I'm used to sleep 6-7 hr but still need more time , wondered if I can reduce it to 4 hr with drinking more coffee.

Any pointers?

    It wont. Coffee increases your heart rate (so you can't sleep) but your body nonetheless produces hormones that make you tired so you'll just feel more fucked up.

    Source: Me. More than once because I am an idiot.

    Dont do it. Sleep more

    Just want to echo what's already been said: get enough sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation is one of the worst things you can do to yourself short of some sort of wasting addiction like smoking. It causes poor mental and physical health and makes you unable to get anything real done when you're awake.

    Get. Enough. Sleep.

    @ilPinguino @hubiruchi @Zaphod65
    Wow!
    I didn't know lack of sleep can cause such things

    less then 6 hours gets tiring in its self, no amount of coffee will keep you awake long term, ive tried.

    Everyone is on the right track, it's better to be well rested and push a deadline back rather than hurt yourself with the lack of sleep to be on time, you need to come first man...

    Plus it's not good. I drank way too much coffee in my life to the point I struggle to function day to day without 4 coffees a day minimum, it's not fun my dude

    @lxmcf wow!
    4 coffe minimum???
    Anyway will that make you feel less tired?
  • 1
    @R1100 not really, just sort of makes me normal tbh, else I just struggle to stay awake

    Sleep deprivation has been linked to Alzheimer's. Mentally "checking out" ten to fifteen years before your death.

    Get enough sleep. Your mental health depends on it.

    Monster. 7 a day and you can move down to 4 for 3 days but a big warning it will trigger panic attack symptoms

    Lack of sleep is bad news. Seek more, not less

    What @icycrash said, stronger energy drinks (monster, redbull, hell) can temporarily get it down

    What ive been doing is sleeping 4-5 hours 3 times a week and then sleeping 9 on the weekend

    (Yes im just scrolling down your posts)

    @ganjaman 😂😂😂 I've been thinking so !
    Is this method practical?
  • 1
    Eh, i could be a responsible adult like everyone in this thread, but it cant hurt to try. Been doing this for ~5 years
  • 2
    @ganjaman I do 1-2 hours of sleep twice a week. I'm up to 10 cans of monster a day. It sucks. But shit needs to get done.
  • 0
    @icycrash oh man !
    That is a big deal !
  • 0
    @icycrash how old are you?
    Can i do it ?(still 19)
  • 2
    @R1100 I'm 23 and I wouldn't recommend it especially if you have to drive. It's hard on your body and there is no catching up on sleep. Doing this gets you so wired up it's like a permanent panic attack.

    @icycrash “but shit needs to get done”.
    I like you’re style, but if it don’t get done in the 8 hours of the day I’m paid for, shit don’t get done today.

    @C0D4 no more working?
    I just can't leave challenges undone
  • 0
    @C0D4 amen brother
  • 2
    @R1100 challenges? If I’m almost complete then sure I’ll keep going, but I’m more meaning work and deadlines.

    I’m in a position, that deadlines are my making for the most part. so if I want to push something back, I’ll push something back rather than give my self a heart attack from mass energy drink consumption.

    back when I was 18-20, I was having 6 red bulls by 9am and they actually didn’t help after a while - I was still half asleep, you grow a tolerance to them, so it was back then I decided to sleep more then 3-4 hours a day.

    Deadlines are just “expectations”, and very rarely in any place, will all those expectations be met on a regular basis.

    @C0D4 so true
  • 2
    @C0D4 my boss sees deadlines as if you don't get it done your fired. So I try to get my part done by the halfway point so it's others jobs on the line.
  • 2
    @icycrash I used to work for a guy like that and I started raking up 16 hour days.
    But you get a to a point where it’s your mentality vs them even giving a shit.

    it isn’t worth it in the long run, and there’s always more work in the world.

    Now I’m down to a 9-5 gig with a lot of concurrent projects, but at the end of the day, if somethings not done, it’s not done.

    @C0D4 i like your manifesto !
    Standing like a man! Wish I can be like you some day
    "What is not done, is not done"

    @C0D4 I need to find a new job just haven't found one yet.

    @malphas you mean only a certain amount of sleep is enough?
  • 1
    @malphas yes I have experianced this alot
  • 2
    @malphas words of wisdom
  • 3
    @icycrash

    That shit is unacceptable. You can make a living AND be healthy. Don't let some asshole out-of-touch manager try to convince you otherwise.

    Losing sleep will shorten your life, and that's a stone-cold fact.

    @bahua i don't wanna die 😭
  • 2
    I guess you could smoke crystal meth to stay up.. but then sleep deprivation would be the least of your worries
  • 1
    @segfault0xff then i would simply Rest In Peace!
  • 1
    @segfault0xff that is even more scary!
  • 3
    No offense, but this is the dumbest topic I've seen since I joined devrant.

    Get enough sleep. Learn to sleep well (follow your sleep cycles, as someone already said). If you have problem with deadlines, try to find the source of the problem.
    Unrealistic deadlines? Fuck them, and fuck who set them.
    Realistic deadline but you can't get them? Find where you waste your time.

    AND SLEEP.

    @taglia I just needed help if it is dumb or not.
    Thanks anyway :>
  • 2
    @segfault0xff yeah then you got to worry about shadow people on day 4.
  • 1
    @icycrash and crazy bikers with machetes and hand grenades, not to mention the helicopters.
  • 2
    @segfault0xff don't forever your highschool science teacher.
