bahua129056yI renewed my European domain name that I use for a URL shortener, and my card was declined three times before I saw the email asking me if it was me. I confirmed it was me, and the purchase went through.
A week later, I get an email from my card company that says, "because of suspicious activity, we are sending you a new card with a new number."
I call them and there is, "nothing they can do." -
And I thought it happened with me only.
Fking Xbox store and my cards from two different banks. Still can't buy PUBG online. -
@bahua I already call my CC company before I travel abroad so that they don't fuck up when I actually want to pay something. That's especially risky if my company buys the flight ticket and I advance local payments because then my CC company doesn't "see" the flight ticket.
The funny thing with that vendor is that I actually have a history of buying there for way over 1k EUR without any problems, and the security system somehow still thought it would be good to block shit.
AI means that things get fucked up randomly and nobody knows why.
@rookiemaverick in my case, calling the CC hotline finally resolved the issue. Maybe their security system learns from that so that future payments with that vendor count as normal again. -
arazzz4706yMy bank even has a fucking LIST of the countries prior of visiting which I must inform the bank. Some of them make me think WTF. Belgium. Canada. USA, for God's sake!!! I do not have any recent problems using their cards online though, esp. if the merchant has "verified by Visa" enabled.

arazzz4706yAnd yeah, this rant reminded me that I should start the procedure of getting my Revolut card.

cjbatz14716yDon't you have Two Factor Authentication?
I live in South Africa, and even we have that.
If I purchase anything online I get an SMS with a "One Time Password" that I have to enter into the browser to complete the transaction. -
Now try buying things with virtual bank. Every other vendor in London decides to decline my virtual bank provider even if I am physically present at the store...
-
@arazzz the issue with US is that they have outdated infrastructure there with no support for the chip, only for the magnet stripe. That's easy to clone and readily invites CC fraud.
@cjbatz I have the thing where it redirects to my bank and I confirm the payment there, but it's up to the vendor to use that. If he doesn't, the risk with fraudulent payment is on him, however.
Damn, credit cards are so fucking secure these days that you hardly can BUY shit with them!
I need some special electronics that I only can get from a vendor in the US, which is overseas. Click click, buy, done. Well no, credit card refused. WTF? Click retry link. No, still refused. FUCK.
Called up the 24/7 hotline of my CC company. Oh yeah, that got blocked by the security system, somehow. We disable that for 20 minutes, just retry. Clicked retry link at the vendor. No failure mail. Hmmm, too good to be true?! Called up the electronics vendor. Yeah should work, stuff is in the warehouse stage. 40 minutes later: credit card declined. FUCK.
Called up the CC company again. Ok, disable blocker for one hour. Nice advice from them, tell the vendor it's only 45 minutes so that there's some buffer. Clicked retry link at the vendor and called them up to make sure that they retry before the time runs out.
LO AND BEHOLD, I could finally pay the shit!!
