Yesterday my boss saw me getting my 4th cup of coffee and asked: Isn't that a bit much?
Me: Didn't you know? Programmers run on coffee and pizza.
Him: I allways thought it was cigarettes and (something I don't remember...)

    Cigarettes? Maybe In the old COBOL days. Don't think the cigs would fly in today's office.

    Programmers have a higher number of smokers and a lower number of alcoholics when compared to other professions.

    I've heard many programmers smoke copious amounts of Cannabis too.

    I think it depends where you are. I'm in the northeast of the US, and I'm the only one who smokes at my work (about 50 devs).

    4-5 cups of coffee a day is pretty normal for me. (and call me prude, but I've never been interested in smoking anything)

    @donkeyScript most of my jobs have been in / near Merrimack, nh, but i grew up in Boston and it had the same feeling when I was there.

    @donkeyScript Most of the time was in Medford and Jamaica plain, went to school in Somerville. It hasn't been too long, but man oh man have things changed, lol.
