jonii25346yKiddies.
I don't think that's a good start for kids to learn coding, I started with Delphi and that was fine. -
@jonii I started with HTML myself and I do think it’s good for kids it’s just fucking annoying when people say there programmers and shit. They probably don’t even know what stack overflow is 😂
-
It's helpful to make things easier for kids to learn them, but it just makes it harder for them to learn the real thing if you make it too easy. Scratch is cool and all, but I think someone who knows Scratch is only little more prepared for real coding than someone who doesn't

Trinsec1836yScratch is nice to teach people the wonders of logic thinking. If they wanted to know more beyond that, they can always try their hand at a scripting language next and then a real programming language. Nothing wrong with it. If they think they're da bomb, let them be. Let them fall hard if they have to prove themselves. :)

wait, what? this isn't coding?
but for real, sometimes i think i am not better while copying snippets bc they just do their job. -
I for one appreciate the separation of logic and syntax which systems like scratch provide. Programming is logic. Let's not get caught up in too much fighting over what syntax makes someone a "real" programmer. Remembering syntax is not a true test of programming ability, but a knowledge of implementation details.
Let's also not get caught up in dismissing beginner enthusiasm. Sure, most people are going to never move into more complex parts of programming (and some clearly are far too proud of basic accomplishments without thinking things through properly, but those people have other problems). Dismissiveness rarely is helpful to growing the good part of a community from the more humble beginning points. Programming is hard, but let's not make it harder than it needs to be.
