Where I'm from (in the US) we usually do it month/day/year so 8/4/16 is not as cool. 🙁

While I am not particularly certain, but it may be done for the reason we commonly say dates like August 4th 2016 in that order rather than The 4th of August 2016. Is that still common in European countries?

@johnfoobar same thing, the US format as M/D/Y whereas pretty much rest of world uses D/M/Y format.
