@ThatDude @Haxk20 @threevolve
Not really knowing what to say I replied: I do software development
Kid: Oh, ok.
And the conversation ended there. -
@Haxk20 don't get me wrong, but what the heck is the experience you bring from your 8th age so you wrote 9 years of experience into your bio?:D
-
@Haxk20 k, i'm giving you that.
When i think about it actually, i could say the same about photoshop for me i guess.
My mom does webdesign and i tried out stuff around that with 9~10, too, before discovering dev for me.^^ -
mrgemeco1057yEyey, this has nothing to do with that person being 17, they're almost young-adults only separated by a year. I've met pretty smart kids that actually understand that programming is feeding a computer/device very specific instructions one at a time, word by word, which may eventually be made into a reusable script. It's not that stupid saying that jailbreaking is script making, however it's on a different level than app making where you fuck around directly with the OS instead of in the environment that the OS has made for you. Should just have told the kid that they're two different things. Developing for the phone instead of tweaking the phone.

Do you do math?
Yes
So you like solve differential equations?
No
Oh, so you don't really do math.
Kid(age: 17): What kind of programming do you do?
Me: Well, I started writing scripts in Python, but in the last few months I moved to IOS development, so like making apps.
Kid: So you write scripts for phones?
Me: Not exactly—
Kid: Do you know what jailbreaking is?
Me: Yeah.
Kid: So do you jailbreak stuff?
Me: No—
Kid: Oh so you don’t really do programming.
