I hope you do understand that this can happen with any kernel level driver update and not snap user land crap. Although I agree with you that ideally one can do a controlled, tested rollout I do think the risk of delaying and potentially missing critical security system updates is higher than what just happened.

What I would like to see is canary roleout tests to be done by the updater. That would reduce risks dramatically. And even then there are situations where you rather have it broken than insecure.

Of course I understand that.

For me, I don't care if it's kernel or userland. Nothing is touched on my box without my intervention.

And, I would hope you understand that "insecure" (especially when touted by an "antivirus" company) is very much preferable to broken.

And if you doubt that, go ask all the companies hit by clownstrike...

@CoreFusionX don't be blinded by a single incident. Go ahead and ask the affected banks if they would rather have their endpoint security system shut down their systems or leave them running insecure.
Running insecure means that (financial) customer data is leaked or cash machines handing out free money.

I ranted about similar policy in my previous company where i should ask some people over the cybersecurity app to get local sudo access on my machine.

They have sudo access to all company machines so nuking all the data/machines from single point becomes easy.

Also Klaus Schwabstika talked about imminent cyber attacks and that it must be tested, so here ya go!

World let's move from overpriced piece of shit OS to Linux for the it infrastructure in general.

@devJs I would love to move to Linux for stuff, but some of the wonky shit I see on new window managers makes me pause. Dealing with some fucked up shit with GitEye on Ubuntu 22.04. The render fucks up if on second screen. Unless I put it up in left hand corner it is fine. This is Gnome, which is what our company requires. But still should not be a thing IMO.

@devJs maybe bad example doh. Cannot even find newer version of GitEye. It is just gone. No repo for it either. Why is our company using shit you cannot even download anymore?

@Demolishun I mean every software has some issues but for some reason windows like to be first on that shitty list.

Ubuntu also has some quirks as well, but I would rather use machine that occasionally has usb or speaker issues than fully working windows.

I know how frustrating it can be when company forces you to use something that just-works™ but its been outdated like 200 years ago!

I was forced to use IE7 at the corporate job I had as a student. Horrible experience!
