CoreFusionX3388182dAs a Spaniard living in Portugal, usually my choice is just... North of Spain.
(North of Portugal is Spain anyway).
Mild climate, still cheap if you know your way, which we obviously do. (We can smell tourist traps from miles away), nice places, nice food, nice beaches, nice mountains if that's more your thing.
Then again, if I'm feeling more adventurous, it's Ireland/Scotland/Netherlands/Belgium/Normandy for me.
Can still get by with the language, know enough of the culture to be able to mingle with locals, beautiful nature (which is more my thing), and terrible food, but I can overlook that 😂. Better beer/whiskey though, so I manage. -
CoreFusionX3388182dIn the end, I'd have to say (and I'm not making it personal here, please don't interpret it so), we tend to flee from the over saturated touristic areas.
It's become so bad that locals can't even afford to live there anymore, which is a shame (and we're the ones to blame).
Just saying, we of course welcome tourists, but please don't think of our countries like your backyard summer resorts where you can forget your manners and do all the stupid shit you are not brave or impudent enough to do in your countries.
We will all benefit if that shit is kept in each one's homes really. -
webketje2220182dClimate change has turned my country in a sufficiently "heaven on earth place" that I don't feel the need to go south anymore (I prefer mild heat, max 32°C, over baking to death)

dmonkey2327167dProbably on some beach 5km from where you are that is not listed on google and/or ordinary traveling books.

Hey lads and gals!
A genuine question to people who live in "heaven-on-earth" countries (Greece islands, Italy, Spain seaside, Portugal, etc.). Where do YOU travel to to chill, change scenery and relax?
I mean, for us, wildlings of the North, going South on vacation is a no-brainer. Like now, I'm getting my sanity back while sipping Rakia (IDK why not ouzo though..) in Crete. But where do Cret(ians?) and other Southerners go on vacation?
