Who thinks they could improve these every single time they use them?

    It's sooo true 😂

They don't exist where I live

Not here. Never have problems with it. I love it. I walk in and out within 2 minutes. With just 20 seconds at the checkout.

i'd love a express button, i dont have coupons or a membership card i just want to pay asap when i've scanned all articles. And the stupid card terminal is so slow.
But it's still better than standing in a queue at rushhour time.

I'd like them to run a lot quicker than having to wait a few seconds for them to do their action. I mean come on, we live in a world where we have 8 core ARM chips, and I bet these don't even use them. I guess it's all about cost at the end of the day. If it works and it does it job, it's sold.

@heyheni include a sensor in the divider things, when it reaches the end, the cards terminal automatically activates, tap with contactless and leave. Boom.

I'm thinking of the bigger automatic ones, wouldn't work for these. Perhaps when the left side only has the weight of the basket it activates automatically

I can. Rip 'em up, stick proper checkouts there. No more unexpected items in the bagging area.

I don't see what else can be improved here. At least where I live which is the UK, and this seems to be a picture from Sainsbury's which is in the UK, these machines work really well until some dumb person decides to do something stupid and fuck it up. And even still the process for correcting mistakes on them is pretty simple. The only improvement they need is to stop people with big trollies and 50kg of shopping from using these because that's not what they're designed for. These are for quick checkouts and small purchases (imo). Other than that, most support contactless payments, coupons, auto deduct deal prices. I don't see any improvement here other than robots doing it for you.

@px06 they are still buggy, plenty of times I've put an item in and out claims unexpected item, even though it has been scanned. I often resort to just putting it aside so I can carry on as I have paid for it.

In France, some supermarkets provide scanners in entrance. Customers can take a scanner during the shopping in supermarket. Simply scanning bar code of products and put products in cart, the scanner records the products and shows the summed up price. At the exit, customers just return the scanner and pay the price. So smooth.

The best way to improve them is to deliver groceries to my house.

    Or, better, to the fridge.

Or... just someone who sits next to me at my desk, gently caresses my balls, and funnels food into my mouth, while guiding me with a soft voice towards an elegant solution for this bug.

I rarely use other shoppers but I do have a few ideas on how to improve them... It's such a shame that human beings are so resistant to improvement :(

    My god, yes!

I avoid them like the plague. Every time I’ve tried to use one someone from the store is hovering around and has to help people because of all the self-checkouts shortcomings. And they tend to always end up taking more time.

They really need to improve them. I’ve always argued when people say AI will soon take over, yet simple things like self-checkouts are still generally unusable.

@SHA-16384 you get paid in time though since its that much quicker.

@px06 I'm thinking more on a UI improvement

Yeah I often think the same thing...I work for one of the main producers of those machines...I am sorry everyone! :( forgive me!
