Me wondering why my boss still hasnt given me approval for an e.ail i sent a week ago
Oh he got fired2 -
Mentors dont understand the power they have...
My mentors boss (non technical) will ask me to do something that either makes no sense or technically impossible. Without a mentor whos willing to say "that makes no sense to ask" or just "he will need an extra week to do it" can change an internship from a horrible nightmare to a great experience1 -
Ive lost touch with todays memes (not that cringy stuff reposted on devrant) but memes have gotten so meta these days I struggle to figure them out
Is that what getting old feels like?2 -
Rant
Fucking websites that dont host the latest version of their own software
Thanks for making me download a 5gb installer just to make me download another 2gb in updates assholes -
I decided recently that I would give Linux a chance as I move more away from engineering to dev
It didnt start great:20 -
They call it $5/gb hotel wifi, i call it free uncapped 100meg fibre because your security sucks
Oh and they host their entire POS (and database with backups) on the same network accessible to every TV in the hotel16 -
Rage at ANY software installer that automatically launches my browser to a fucking webpage on completion
IT HAS NEVER BEEN USEFUL4 -

Starting my new engineering job which will provide me with the first laptop I've ever had...god I hope its a decent one, going to use it to learn Linux with dualboot provided company IT dept. hasn't fucked me1 -
Udemy courses are a fucking trap.
Bought one course on MERN stack by a youtuber I like, 10 minutes later I have 2019 filled with everything from web development to machine learning with sprinkles of flutter and react native in their as well
Side note - their 'sales' tactic is extremely slimy practice5 -
Rant at teachers being payed like shit. I've graduated with an engineering degree and would love to rather be a teacher...not about that poverty life tho4
-
Just graduated university and got a high paying internship (well, high paying to someone whos never been paid) in my field of chemical engineering, feeling quite lucky
Cant wait to upgrade my PC, it was a beast when I built it in 2012 but nowadays running chrome and android studio is enough to make it commit suicide
Goals for 2019:
Publish my first android app
Learn web development
Become an AWS guru
Not spend all my income on PC parts
Ive watched a bunch of web development crashcourses/trends and (comming from desktop appplication development) omfg what a nightmare mess of confusing stuff but alas i shall prevail or die trying5 -
I remember when i was first deciding whether to do web programming or desktop applications, i chose java/C/C++ mainly because I already had experience. Back then when i was researching web stuff it was HTML + CSS + javascript and something called jquery, ok cool seems like I can pick it up in the future. Fastforward to 2018 and i was looking to get into it, BUT holy fucking shit what a confusing minefield and cesspool of javascript horror and frameworks and bloat, wtf happened??

I love developing apps and software but im scared becoming a dev by profession will ruin the experience for me and drain my soul1
-
Was nearly in a serious car accident this morning but managed to swerve and miss like 10 objects...i was so full of adrenaline but all i could think was "wow, that was just like in Need For Speed Most Wanted"
Oh and the fucker that caused it drove away 🙃🙃1 -
Just succesfully converted my entire app from using web scraping data fetching to direct API by reverse-engineering their android app to get to their private API
App is running much faster and more stable now, feels good3 -
Theres only 2 kinds of people in this world:
1. var username;
2. var user_name;
Hint: one of them will burn in hell57 -
When your shithole country's postal service is so bad you have to substitute your dev duck

Its been 1 month and still no reply from my university IT department after i inforned them the login was transmitting usernames and passwords unencrypted over http and that the password field was case-insensitive for some fucking reason.
Might have to break out the sniffer and setup a script to automatically email them different students account details until they fix it, i should cc the dean 😂8 -
So some asshole keeps sending phishing emails to every student and prof in our university and the IT department is too pathetic to block it. They all come from the same email and contain the same text yet they cant filter it and just send warnings not to click it.
Im getting sick of recieving 5 of these a day, i scanned and viewed the page and its just a simple form copying the outlook login page with a redirect to the actual page after submission.
Whats the easiest way to write a script that will spam them with thousands of fake accounts? How can i fuck with these guys?7 -
Tried javascript coming from Java and C++, i know not a lot of people agree with me but holy fucking shit i hate non-typed variables they introduce so much ambiguity it drives me insane!!!9
-
This is fucking bad. I just stumbled across a database online, unencrypted plain text containing ALL details of thousands of students at my university. Full names, ID number (SSN), student numbers, address, family info, medical aid info, physical fitness reports
What do I do? I was not on any VPN or proxy when I accessed it19 -
OKAY MICROSOFT EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE FUCKING FUCK WINDOWS CREATION TOOL WILL ONLY DOWNLOAD TO THE C:\ DRIVE?12
-
I think studying engineering has really fucked up the way i learn new things...i find it nearly impossible to commit anything to memory that could easily be looked up. On its own it doesnt sound so bad but now I keep forgetting simple programming syntax and android design patterns because my brain just keeps saying
"You dont need to remember this, you can find it online is 2 mins"
Id rather just keep a bookmark of a great navigation drawer tutorial as opposed to learning it myself...i worry now what will happen in my technical interviews even though I consider myself a good programmer -
My university IT department fucking sucks. Nothing ever works, 90% of the website links 404 or just straight up are broken af3
-
New years resolution: no more tech support period. No one appreciates it and if anything breaks in the future youre expected to fix it. Lol, no thanks2

Rant at samsung tablet design. Those fucking touch buttons are shit. How the fuck am i supposed to hold my tablet comfortably in landscape mode when every 5 fucking seconds i accidentally press the buttons? This design has no place on any device larger than 6". From now on its physical buttons or on screen only. They dont even provide a simple non-hacky root method to turn them the fuck off and replace with on screen android buttons.
I really enjoy having a tablet and i find them incredibly useful. My only problem im having is that i seem to ALWAYS press something by accident. If its not my hand touching the samsung buttons its my headphone cable gently brushing against the screen.
I need to write an app that will lock out all input to my device until i do a certain gesture on the screen, something that cant easily be mistaken like a 4 finger infinity 😂😂1 -
My parents think everything i do on the computer is magic. Theyre too scared to toich any of my stuff because I convinced them it records live video and biometrics to my phone.

Quick android gif workaround
The fix is to open the gif in fullscreen, wait 5 seconds, close it and open it again.
It will load the second time.1
