Do you know if everyone generally has a garbage pay or if there's big wage gaps?

Normally you can't get a significant raise - if your starting salary was garbage your stuck cause you're never getting a +10% raise.

But i have heard of places where starting salaries were unusually low during bad economic times ( 2008) and when the job market became more competitive new hires got a much better starting salary. Once I've heard that there was a "salary correction" where they made sure the employees with low salaries got bumped up closer to the average.
