I like what Microsoft's been doing in the open source scene.. Just make an open source, cross platform browser like chromium. Add integration and branding for Windows, leave the other platforms for the community. Chromium could get some competition at least.

GCHQ2787yIf I ever have to use windows it would be 7 I can't stand 10's bullshit, popups to review your security that you can't remove, ads when you pull up the start menu and Microsoft trying to force edge on to you. There's probably more but I haven't used windows 10 long enough to experience it all, thankfully.

Mizz14176287yWhy should I want Edge?
I have my own Network wide AdBlocker...
Which also makes my Network WAY Faster... -
GCHQ2787yYea you press the win key you get your start menu and ad's cover at least 1/3 of the screen sure you can remove them but it's a pain in the arse. And what I meant was Microsoft is doing everything it can to get you to use edge (see op's picture) and when you download another browser you get a pop up asking you to use edge. It's just very shitty business practices that I don't agree with.

Interesting. I've never seen any ads, myself. But I just set firefox as default so I never see that popup either.
-
@hacker I've actually seen it referenced before. Just never made the connection until now tbh :)

@dontbeevil A small modal on a website isn't nearly as bad as native notifications popping up randomly on the OS level.
-
Never thought I'd say this, but I kinda like Edge, don't use it, but I've tried a bunch of times and it's pretty damn snappy and responsive.
-
osmarks8677y@dontbeevil It's not that Edge is particularly bad, it's just the OS-lev adverts which I dislike.
-
@dontbeevil Yep, I too think that Edge is really good by now, in many ways - I'm using it quite regularly on my Laptop. Plus, Chakra (or more so Chakra Core) being open source is a huge step forward as well.
BUT as long as Microsoft refuses to unbundle it from major Windows Updates and updates it only twice a year or so, I 100% refuse to recommend it to anyone. As of now, it effectively isn't an evergreen browser which is an absolute no-go. (same goes for Safari btw)
Definitely desperate.
