So a friend of mine saw that I used DuckDuckGo.

Friend: "why do you use ddg? it has bad results! "
Me:"because I care about privacy, google collects a ton of shit when you search."
Friend:"yeah I don't care I just want to game..."
Me: 😱🤷‍♂️😶

Most people think like that sadly...

@linuxxx OR OR OR you make people afraid, take me as an example, when I now open google.com I feel like 10 men with black suits standing behind my back and recording what I'm doing O_O

I understand the points of FireFox and DuckDuckGo and all that. I'm not negating that privacy is important, but I try to look at positive things in collecting information. Your searching is staying with your lifestyle, and I kinda like that. And your information is, hopefully, in a safe place :/
    I like Google

@linuxxx hey, what browser do you use for everyday use and what do you think about Opera (if you used it)

PS sorry for stupid questions, I just also got word about my privacy.

@heeMan Firefox! And opera was awesome when it was still open source. Nowadays it's owned by some Chinese company and its known that their vpn service practices data sellings.

@heeMan Firefox here too ! Un french, we have Qwant to replace Google search. But if someone have a better alternative, feel free to answer.

And yes Duckduckgo has poor results ..

@linuxxx also, how to you deal with the fact that a smartphone is a tracking device that can make phone calls?
  • 3
@heeMan custom rom + no gapps + XPrivacy + root firewall + dns server with pihole + vpn.

@Wesley Could you rephrase that last sentence to an opinion? :)
  • 0
@linuxxx oh cool what rom do you use (and again sorry for stupid questions)

@linuxxx and finally, would you consider cyangenmod safe?
  • 1
@heeMan Cyanogenmod doesn't exist anymore. It's being continued as LineageOS.

But yeah: it's open source and it's safe. :)
  • 0
@theCalcaholic yeah, I meant to write lineage os

I sometimes open a Privacy window for searching in Google.
I know they can still get it with the IP but I don't really search for evil stuff unless programming is evil 😉
