If we were to update the save icon to something more relevant, what would it look like?
-
bvader6117y@Olverine since it was pretty universal, and portable... Probably a USB Thumb drive... They both are similar in usage... *shrugs*
-
bioDan61597y@bvader well if USB flash drives came before floppy disks, i bet that they would be the icon.
However, the icon as a UI representation of 'save' was needed back when floppy disks were the main way to do a "backup", or in other words, "save your data" (and even transfer your data). Since then, it has been a legacy icon as it is well recognized all around the world. -
Jeez, I'm old. And good question. What would it be? I have no idea. Not sure a cloud would evoke the same sense of security.
-
@eyps a cloud is actually pretty good. Most people would be able to understand it's meaning. However, it would be misleading when saving data locally.

bvader6117y@bioDan I was just saying if it were to be updated.
I grew up with a 5 1/4" floppy and a commodore 64, so I know why we use it as the save button. I may be a programmer newbie, but I'm an old guy when it comes to tech. -
marcom4597yThinking about any icon that implies safe/security I can only think of a classic lock 🔒 like you use to lock your bike. But isn't this even older than a floppy :)
