dfox428267yCan’t you just switch to Google DNS in a situation like that?
Right now it would be pretty hard for us to use an IP because there’s no guarantee we won’t ever need to juggle our web servers, which is why in general domain names are nearly universally used for APIs.
Unless I’m missing something, I think this would be a very difficult change unfortunately and I can’t see it happening. -
dfox428267yAnd I also wouldn’t recommend any third-party apps that use the devRant API doing it because if we ever do spin up a new web server then those apps would just stop working.

@dfox I tried that actually. Switched to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but nothing helped.
Lol. But no worries, if you cant update the app, its not a problem :P -
dfox428267y@linuxer4fun that’s odd. Those should both work, my guess would be maybe something was cached.
Also, not sure if you were on desktop, but you can always just edit your hosts file to map devrant to our ip and avoid any DNS lookups. That had the same pitfall as us updating the app to use IP, except it will only affect your client and in reality it’s unlikely the IP will change any time soon so you’d be fine I think. -
@dfox Lol. It didnt work. Yes, I was on desktop but as I didnt remember devRants Ip, I couldnt really type it in :P
But no problem, BTW: Its not your fault :P
Its Vodaphones fault (german isp) -
@linuxer4fun computers always have a cache for DNS. And there's always a way to clear it. I don't remember what it is for linux or Mac but I know windows is ipconfig /flushdns

hell169537yDon't know if I'm missing something but it doesn't matter what DNS server you use if your port 53 is unable to communicate with it 🤔

tommy15Right now someone at Google is coding something useless for us to laugh at on April Fools.
Ok. so my ISPs port 53 was DDoSed and I couldnt resolve hostnames anymore.
The only app that worked was Telegram because it (thankfully) calls an ip and doesnt use a DN.
The friends at @codrTalk were so kind to resolve like 20 sites for me by hand in order for me too 1) find out what happened 2) find hotfixes 3) download tor
Now, that I downloaded tor, im doing this over tor.
PWEASE @devrantron team and @devRant team
Could you please make it, that devRant get called over ip as opposed to by DN in your apps?
Anyway, thanks to those in codrTalk.
