Some popular games won't apply the settings to the current instance of the game if you do not hit "Apply" before hitting "OK". Don't blame us; blame the things that gave us this habit!

I like to see the changes before closing the window plus what @Permamiss said, sometimes changes aren't even saved unless you Apply them first...
