I've seen this joke a lot but it never makes sense. by the time the if statement is evaluated, bread has already been gotten. a programmer would still come home with bread and a dozen eggs. now if she said "while you're there, get a dozen eggs if they have any" then I would expect him to come home with all of the eggs.
