Paper bags have a larger print on earth....
The manufacturing process makes at least 10 times more waste (and poisons the soil)

But yeah, most paper contains about as much plastic polymers as plastic bags. -
@bittersweet problem is in the processing...
New or recicled a lot of chemicals are used (water based, to wash, clean and white the paper)
Plastic bags have almost no finger print on production and recicling... -
@RodrigoF Yup, and the drying... I've momentarily worked in a paper factory, and there were two giant turbines gobbling up 1500m3 gas/minute to heat up drying machines. And thousands of liters of fibre rich effluent water running off into a lake at 60c...

The water in the lake is lake is the worst... Should be a low against it, but It's hard to create laws against lobbies...
