ganey957yImho a web development degree only says you've managed to use whatever was current 3 years ago. Lecturer's can't keep up with current new stuff and teach it all well.
Job applications ask for the degree, yet at Uni you basically follow half a set of instructions to build something and figure the rest out yourself. The skills you learn are more about research and design patterns.
I did development before uni, and during my coding style improved, but mostly by working with other developers.
You learn way more actually at work. Plus 3-4 years at uni won't give you that much more salary to start with. 3-4 years experience would pay better in the UK. -
Helerr347yI completely agree with you man, especially since my teachers are almost 60 years old and don't listen to our suggestions to try new practices...95% of all the code I know is self thought from the internet and I would take a lower paying job in the field any time of the day but my best shot here is an internship without a degree and I missed my chance sadly because they are only available at the beginning of the summer and I keep hunting for a job or an internship but it the meantime I need some money to support myself

Ok.. So I'm a student striving to be a mobile developer and since the job market is non-existent if you don't have a degree here I had to take a customer support job for the moment/until I find something better.
I was handling some purchases and ask this customer to provide me a screenshot of the receipt.
Send him steps on how to do it and a video demonstration for Android devices.
Now the great part
HE PROCEEDS TO SCAN HIS PHONE SCREEN WITH A SCANNER, PRINTS THE IMAGE AND THEN TAKES A PICTURE OF THE PRINTED FILE AND SENDS IT. HOW THE FUCK SHOULD I READ ANYTHING THERE YOU FUCKING TOMATO?!?!
