@AlexDeLarge my parents think I am exotic looking and think I should do stuff like this. Apparently they have no idea that entertainment (especially modeling) is a soul sucking industry full of people looking to just use you up like a commodity. Some people don't see past the glamor that is portrayed.
-
"No thanks. I'll keep the crippling lack of self esteem I already have. Thank you." At least that used to be my response since I have "good bone structure"
-
@MissDirection No wonder you look exotic since birth with that hair color of yours. 😉
-
@PonySlaystation lol I think the doctor would have freaked if I was born with pink hair. IRL my hair is not crazy pink like this. It's naturally blonde and I have some pink in it.
-
I'm now picturing your parents at home commiserating: "We begged her not to do it! We wanted so much better for her! But no... She's... she's... she's... a developer!" *Wailing loudly*

vlankveld307y@MissDirection do you feel like tech is not a soul sucking industry that uses you as a commodity? I recently saw Daniel Lyons talk about ageism in tech and it seems kind of similar to entertainment; dispose of models/devs when they get too old. Not to mention the ethos that is expected, for example in a rant somewhere here where a dev got told by his boss that since he is single he should work longer. 😬

Celes6907yEach time I see my mother these days, she wants me to become an actor x) well I like to play comedy, but fuck that's not what I chose to do. If I should have become a pro each time people said so...
-
@vlankveld I've heard mixed opinions, but I am just starting so I can't say for myself. What I can say is I want to use my mind rather than get photographed in clothes and do drugs between shoots.
-
@MissDirection so you wrote code and do drugs between projects? For shame ;p
-
@MissDirection Yeah it's better to shoot drugs in between lines of coke... uh code.
-
I would rather have my daughter code than model or dance. I would rather all humans code so we can just automate life already. I fucking hate the intense superficiality of models and any industry based off looks above function. I want ugly movie stars. I'm not comfortable staring at Chris Pratt for two hours, it makes me feel bad about being a skinny piece of shit. I'm comfortable staring at code that is way better than mine though, it helps me improve. Its a career which abandons you by design - you are not beautiful forever. Even if you are the most beautiful person in the world you should not model, because the world is soon to forget you. Fuck parents that seriously advise anything like this as a career.
Slightly relevant fun fact: one of my favorite artists got their song in a Victoria's secret commercial and I am so proud of them :D lol -
@MissDirection I lost it at "my parents think I am exotic looking". Be strong, you'll show then there's more than looks inside you.
-
In my opinion, investing on good looks is not for long term. Beauty and fame fade quickly. Plus, some people will be looking out for your flaws all the time. Brain > Skin
-
@AlgoRythm so much anger. I love it!! You might be a skinny dude but you get to be our skinny dude, now lets all be happily angry together as the angry community that we are 😊
