One time I was told to "just use wix, it'll make a full website for our organization"

Ah more WordPress hate!
You know what, if alls your client needs is a CMS, why not use it?
I'm still yet to hear a good, valid argument (that isn't just regurgitated answers) on why it shouldn't be used, in a situation where it is acceptable to consider it. -
Recently I had to make a big, important and complex website on Wordpress.
3 months after going live my boss told me it already had 1'000'000 visitors!
I'm so glad that it still somehow works... -
@PonySlaystation that'd be down to using a good server, nothing really to do with WordPress ;)
-
Baguette4267yI never liked any CMS, but it depends on the clients needs, if they want WP, i give them WP.
-
lumogox4047yWhat a cry baby, what's with the WordPress hate ? WordPress is fucking easy, it is a nightmare to you? Man you suck! In terms of productivity and deliverying what the customer wants is just fine. The nightmare if you ask me is it's security, everyone attacks a WP site, and is easy to do it, but again that's on you, if you don't take the precautionary measures.
-
@lumogox I have a love hate relationship with Wordpress.
RE: security, we're so lucky our clients often have static IPs at their offices, so I restrict access to wp-admin in nginx or apache -
@ChainsawBaby lots of tricks you can do to make it secure. Not using 'admin' as a username helps :D
-
@pabmeister do you use it in production? Its a nightmare, security problens everywere, bots...
-
@pabmeister indeed, and using something like Wordfence or sucuri helps a lot. It not just protects admin login. But checks if any files has been changed or contains malware code
-
@jpirovano proof? Seriously, if you take a few steps, WordPress is as secure as any other CMS. And yes, we do use it as one of our platforms.
-
lumogox4047yNOTHING is bullet proof, anything can be and would be hack, WP is a nice an easy tool to deliver a website in a short time. Do you think is profitable to build your own CMS everytime you have a new client? No it's not. I use it on production every time I can, and I take the necessary precautionary measures to protect the site.
-
We actually only use Wordpress for our clients, as its a well documented platform (user perspective)
Wordpress is shit if you look at all the plugins and themes, as a lot is made by bad developers -
No framework or CMS is free of security flaws. But I'm more comfortable using a framework with security baked into the design, nothing like WordPress.
