@luminousnine I installed a Linux distro in April and have it still installed. It got my daily driver immediately and yesterday I wiped the Windows partition. I was shocked seeing Windows enabling the Firewall although I disabled it. On Linux I could just uninstall the firewall (like ufw).
Anyway I am happy to use Linux all day. -
@rozina you'll need anything other than outlook to register on my websites. I blocked it everywhere with a nice message, why I cant send an email to the user's email.
-
The funny part of this post: There will be nobody, who can say anything against this post, because all of it is true.
-
@rozina I fucking own a Windows Phone... 😀
@jAsE Should I start cooking some popcorn? 😉 -
@jAsE Windows Phone fans haven't forgiven Microsoft and Nadella to some extent for the retreat from the mobile market. WP8.1 is a very solid OS and deserved more love.
People have their favourite pizzas for their own reasons. Same applies for OSes. In the end, the struggle is the same for all devs. 🙂 -
@Scrumplex @luminousnine @rozina I like all of you! The fun thing is that all of those are facts indeed.
For me even just the data collection and the fact that nobody can't check Windows for back doors in this day and age ready is a big nope and 'fuck this shit I'm out' for me. @jpichardo @ewpratten @matsaki95 @ebourgess you might like this one as well! -
Part 4: They take trillions of dollara every year from each country by Windows annual license fee.
-
@rozina For some people it's odd that Microsoft made some good obscure products. But we should focus on all the "negative" aspects of the corporation for the thread's sake.
-
@Qaldim there are good products like Microsoft Office. But I have to say, that most products were shit.
-
@rozina WinPhone s were actually awesome. Until these happened
MS refuses to update my 8.1 to 10 for no reason
App devs leaves the platform
Ceo changes to nadella (sarcasm)
No one gives interest
Fail -
@rozina @Scrumplex I don't know, I'm afraid it will end up just another flame war thread.
@CozyPlanes The downfall of Windows Phone, was Windows Desktop 8/8.1. It was very alien to the user base that Microsoft had to push to Windows 10 faster (like with Vista to 7). The presidential switch didn't help either, as Nadella is more cloud oriented, but maybe the company got less revenue from the Mobile department than they expected, so they pulled the plug. With the decreasing user share, big companies/programmers started to jump ship, since it wasn't worth the effort to develop for another mobile platform. What also pissed the mobile user base, was the fact that the majority of the phones didn't make it to the transition to W10M. I'm still tipping the hat to Microsoft though, because even now they're supporting W10M with updates. I'm only hoping they'll release another phone, not for business use. -
@Scrumplex you mean "in my opinion MS Office is good'? I mean imo it's not a good product so I guess it's subjective :).
No not solely because it's closed source, during my exams I had to work with Excel and it crashed aproximately every 10 seconds. Had to get permission to install LibreOffice because I just couldn't do my work. -
@linuxxx I prefer Open Source too, but not everyhing this is closed source is shit
-
@Scrumplex Depends on what you (that person) would define as being shit. If you like it, then it's not shit for you!
-
@dontbeevil for the tracking: Google also tracks everything, but they do it while also giving you good services. I automatically get a notification on my phone after Google saw an email of letsencrypt certs expiring. It automatically wrote that to my calendar. Or having a proof where one was with the location timeline.
I only pointed things out that I don't like about MS specifically. If you say that Safari is the new IE does not mean my point makes no sense. To the closed source thingy: If xou do not trust the OS' kernel just compile your own one from the source code. On Windows there is no way of installing an alternative kernel -
@dontbeevil Most linux distro's come pre-installed with Firefox, Rhythmbox, thinderbird or evolution, the libreoffice suite and ShotWell :).
-
@dontbeevil And about the tracking, yeah you can officially turn it off but who knows if those buttons/checkboxes even do anything?
Tracking of the OS usage, fine by me but for personal stats, don't you even dare to phone that shit home!
:) -
@dontbeevil Oh and try blocking MS tracking: You need to block thousands of domains. With google? Block google analytics, google tag manager, optout of tracking, disable most tracking features
-
@dontbeevil https://youtube.com/watch/... watch this video. He does not capture traffic he uses publicly accessible data and not something OS specific.
-
Ah yes another MS hate rant. Well, I have an idea for all you haters!
Why don't you all get together, build that terrific, secure, user friendly OS that supports tons of hardware, build all those apps that run on your new OS, and of course is completely free for everyone.
Let me know when you're done. Happy to see how that turns out.
In the meanwhile: don't use MS stuff if you're not happy with it, use it and don't complain, or make something better yourself and stop whining. -
Achi4147yHere in my country internet ain't cheap and everytime I have to keep an eye open for background services that are eating my money and disable them, but on Linux only the application I opened used internet!!!!!
-
@CodeMasterAlex no need to build that OS: There is GNU/Linux: Secure, fast, open source, has tons of programs, works perfectly on older hardware
-
@Scrumplex I know. I use linux too. And unfortunately linux also has downsides. Yes, runs on older hardware but does not always support it right out of the box. It can also crash for no apparent reason.
And don't forget 'user friendly'. It is nerd/geek/dev/etc friendly. But user friendly? Not convinced about that. But you didn't mention it so I guess it is indeed not. -
@CodeMasterAlex But what you're describing right now goes for about all operating systems :) (yes, including linux)
-
@CodeMasterAlex Combine Qubes OS with SELinux and you're coming pretty close to a very secure system!
-
@moolsbytheway I suppose so? Though I see many weird emoticons on different devices.

Things I hate about Microsoft (Part 1):
Windows: Does things I don't want it to do. Is not user friendly. It is just user familiar.
Outlook / Hotmail: Drops emails silently, which are RFC conform and pass every other mail service. No error messages or notifications.
Edge: Does not / Partially support(s) some modern standards.
IE: No explanation needed.
Design language: border-radius: 0 !important
Business model: Let's make our own hardware, so we can compete with our hardware partners (HP, Dell, ...). Isn't that a perfect idea.
Tracking: Let's track everything of our users. Even how many photos they open in our OS*. What they get from that? Well they could get personalised ads on Bing. Isn't that a perfect model.
