I never do work for friends and family anymore because most of the time they aren't paying me or its a discount / barter thing. so I have little to no motivation to complete their stuff and it creates negative feelings for everyone.

I second that.

I will do bits of graphic design but never a bespoke website. These take time. A way that I recommend to get family off your back or cheapskate clients is to direct them to those builder sites, there's loads of them for e-commerce or template driven basic sites. That way you keep your sanity. But don't recommend Wordpress though!!

This is literally happening to me as we speak. I have been trying and failing to get something more than a wireframe and a logo off them to form something that resembles a brief for over 2 weeks now and every couple of days I receive an email along the lines of 'how's the website going?'
