SSIS is very powerful and easy to use, but man is it a ball ache and unnecessarily temperamental. Especially when you have different server versions.

I avoid it whenever possible.

When I tried to use I found most of the built in stuff was very limited so we had to write custom tasks in. net. this code was not like normal .net projects it was embedded into the ssis file so was harder to maintain. I felt it would have been better to have not used ssis and just made the whole thing as a normal .net application.
