Windows now is way better than linux , if i work on aplatform i want it to be easy to use not that for Every fucking thing i have to use terminal , not that i can't have easy installati on for my programs ! Do you think linux is best but sorry guy ... You have to code more for linux , and build a better user friendly experience or linux will never be able to beat windows , and btw i Like linux but i prefer to be honest than laught on windows that is now best OS

I'm not trolling , i'm working on windows but i've also ubuntu installed in another PC , and really it's not comparable how userfriendly is windows , in ubuntu most of time you have to use a lot prompt and the app storie is not so much think To be an old man or just Someone who don't work with PC so much you'll definitivelly use Windows it's easyer

@thephoenix well if you're serious all I can say is that Ubuntu is not linux, and I hate canonical btw. Try manjaro xfce, it's more Windows like. Well gui for package management will never be beautiful that's a fact I guess.

I love ubuntu and his graphics , but if you think another distro would be better i could try another One .

I find the terminal to be more user friendly, at least from a Dev point of view : less ambiguity. Kinda like how I prefer latex to WYSIWYG editors.

Which is why I'll go with Mac : Windows convenience, UNIX power, and TI-89 hardware 🙃

@thephoenix first time I heard that a device had disconnected a whole network sorry. I'm not a sysadmin btw :p just a Gentoo user I guess.

I'm afraid that you will need access to the router log to fully understand what happen. But maybe your logs could be enough. The worst case would be a bug with your wireless driver maybe. Any sysadmin for some advices there? X)

@Celes i'm learning c# with mono just to create my libs and develop multiplatform application and sold or make it free in windows and linux but for now ubuntu give me a lot of problem and if i have to WORK on a PC i cannot fight Every time for Every damn thing

Im a windows user because I like the system, but linux is so much better in a lot of things.

One might say that Im a windows fanboy but I do know that Linux can be so much better. If I ddint do windows development I would use Linux for webdev.
I just like windows as well.

Just to say , now i'm trying to update ubuntu , no auto update, so i have to do by terminal , find how , but connection vive up in a few minutes and i have TP reconnect or restart the WiFi on my PC

- terminal for everything? My parents/sister use Linux. They're a-tech as fuck and they've never had to touch a terminal.
- app center or graphical package manager, available on most distro's! I sometimes even use it myself 😆. Sites/services with linux support often have ready to download installers (.deb, rpm and so on).
- Code more for linux. Finally something I agree on. Only with every (nearly) pc sold with windows installed by default, this won't happen anytime soon. This is probably partly because Microsoft cuts deals with vendors or the other way around and MS can advertise a lot. Linux distro's don't have this money. Right now I don't think there's much that linux distro's can do to help this, sadly.
- Better user friendly experience. Completely subjective. But then I mean really entirely completely subjective. I prefer Cinnamon, my parents prefer Pantheon, my sister prefers Unity. They all provide a good-to-work-with interface and that's so awesome about Linux, you can use any available DE! Want a windows'ish environment, go with Cinnamon, mate or just Zorin Linux. Want a mac'ish interface? Go with Elementary OS. Want something else like automatic window aligning? Go with Ratpoison, XMonad or i3.

Also, 'windows best os' is subjective as well :).

@thephoenix you had an option for automatic or non automatic updates at the installation. You can find it in the settings as well!

Updates are way easier on Linux because the package manager updates not just the OS like on Windows but anything you ever installed.

Installing apps? All in one place. No need to hunt for them like on Windows.

Installing drivers? Most likely all came preinstalled. Unlike on Windows where you need to hunt for the latest drivers or risk being stuck with a basic version that is missing features.

Have to use the terminal? Of course not. While it might be preferable for a Dev as using terminal is faster than using a UI, you can use the UI entirely if you want.

Need to update apps: Go to Windows Store. Is it a non Store app? There's a 99% chance it has an auto-update feature.

Installing drivers: If you buy a machine, the experience is out of the box, the drivers are installed for you already. Did you make the machine yourself? There's a CD with a wizard guide to install the new drivers. Do you want to update the drivers, but you're bored checking the vendor site? Just update the driver using the Device Manager. Some devices like graphic cards can also be update from the Windows update.

@Qaldim yes you are right, 99% of apps on windows have their own update mechanisms. Some of them install updates without you knowing. Some bug you every single time you open the app. Some bug you without you even opening the app. Some bug you on start up. Some you have to update via their website. Some of them update through the windows store. Some of them update through windows update. Some of them don't bug you and you have to search for it in Help or settings.
Meanwhile in Linux it updates your OS and every installed app whenever and however you want.

Drivers? What about if you have to reinstall windows? Who really keeps driver cds, that sounds even more annoying than going to the website.
Also, the drivers you get with your computer are ALWAYS outdated. How do you update them? They do not auto update and the ones in windows update are basic or old.
What about external devices you plug in?

On Linux they are just already in the kernel or package manager.

@thephoenix Ever thought of asking for help? As long as you're willing to learn/ask for help I can mention some people who are more than willing to try and help a linuxer with problems out!
Me and those people are people who believe in the general idea (one of them I mean) behind Linux: share stuffs and help each other where you can!

@xsacha Well, pardon me, I can't force every Win32 program to have the same way for auto updating. I've tackled with Linux a bit and I had downloaded a few programs that weren't available in the Software Manager (I can't remember the name). To update them I had either manually visit the site or checking if it has an auto-update feature. So yeah, the only thing Linux lacks is auto-update on OS start.

As far as keeping CDs... I do keep them, just in case I don't have an Internet connection. They don't take much space after all. And I've cited a few different ways of getting hardware driver updates, most get the most current working driver. To be frank, I always consider Linux to be more volatile with hardware compatibility. Some years ago there were issues with AMD, now is the latest NVidia drivers about something very specific (I've had a few drinks of gin, I can't remember the technical details).

Also, don't generalise. That's how you start OS war threads.
