Why are product managers always so irritating. I mean i understand they can't code, but then why do they have to be so nosy about status updates.

Its not like if i show progress to you it'll get done quicker. In fact more likely than not it will get delayed. Because you'll start realising things you haven't really thought about.

I somehow feel they are there to only make the entire environment just much more frustrating.

It's because product managers don't have that many things to do themselves than coders/devs.

Most of their job involves them making a tight list of tasks done throughout the day so the 'metrics and graphs' are flying off the roof and upper management is happy that things are getting done.

Trust me, your convinience is the very last thing on their heads.

    In defence of PM:s

Sometimes they're shielding the dev team from insane Stakeholders. I recently complained to my PM over excessive status updates - but found out they were forced to attend meetings with Stakeholders who wanted to shut down a feautre halfway and resume it next year - cause they guessed it was moving too slow and they had new ideas they wanted us to focus on. My PM knew the code would rot if we kept it on ice for 6 months and just had to convince the Stakeholders to let us keep going, by showing actual progress was made daily.

I imagined this was something us devs could've done ourselves but after attending one of the management meetings I realised I wanted to stay as far away from that shit as possible

@jiraTicket may be but i guess that gets compensated by all the dev hours wasted for free non thought through features that eventually aren't used by users.

It is easier to talk than to get things done especially with computers. I bet they will realize how much of a PITA it is to work with PMs and all the other buggers as a Developer if they were to participate in such an activity for say a week or two and live and breathe that role

Development is really hard. Harder when it comes to real life projects. Much harder when there are n number of variables to resolve and balance

@asgs 😂 man the excitement i get to look at a PMs face whenever (s)he shares a video/article about how ChatGPT will replace developers eventually.

I'm like who is going to tell them?
