devios157707yI find the command key way more comfortable than ctrl. I don't know how PC users do it. You can hit the command key on a Mac with your thumb without taking your hand off the home row. With ctrl you have to use your pinky or something.
Also I don't think it's fair to say that Apple is just "doing things differently". Apple has been using the command shortcut key since before Windows was even born. -
If I had a penny for everytime I fail to make the mouse right click I'd be richer than Bill Gates and Steve Jobs combined 😒
-
@devios1 Totally agree with you, I think it's really comfortable to have CMD where it is
-
devios157707y@gitpush Apple has never really gotten the whole right-click thing, and still try to hide it from their users, while trying to accommodate their "power users" by supporting it in a kind of hidden way. Which I find ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with a right-click, and it's just embarrassing that they refuse to just admit they were wrong. But it's different when it comes to shortcut keys. The command key is just in a much better position on the keyboard.
-
@devios1 ya I find it a shame :/ but have to disagree with you on the command button, don't know about you but for me control button doesn't require me to move a finger, but command key requires me moving from half of space button.
-
devios157707y@gitpush I guess it's just what you're used to. I grew up on Macs and find the command key completely natural. I suppose it's the same on the other side of the fence.
-
@devios1 since you grew up with Mac, I've always wondered why does Apple have two types of keyboards for iMacs, I have one and it's enter key is vertically and at work I use an iMac and it's enter key is horizontal. I get brain fucked always pressing the wrong key when I want to press enter
Even ~ key is located in different location 🤔
Both are end of 2015 iMacs -
Not sure what you mean with vertical and horizontal, but maybe the keyboards are for different languages?
-
devios157707y@gitpush That's more to do with the locale of your keyboard. Macs have used the single-key-height return keys on their US keyboard layouts for as long as I can remember. I don't recall ever seeing a Mac with one of those "elbow" return keys (which I'm guessing is what you mean by vertical). So my only guess is that it's another language layout.
-
@devios1 @SpectralKH this is what I meant, look at the enter key, and it's an English keyboard
While at work enter key is like shift key
Also my keyboard has ~ key next to Z while at work it's before 1 key
P.s. image is upside down 😌 -
devios157707y@gitpush Definitely a non-US keyboard layout. I can't guess what language it is for but that's definitely not the standard iMac keyboard.
-
@devios1 I see, thought they do a redesign for every generation I'm happy I was wrong 😌
Thanks man 😀 -
devios157707y@gitpush Looks like that is what they call the "International English" keyboard, which is different from the US English keyboard. https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...
-
@devios1 That's how my enter key looks. I would freak out with the positioning of the (){}[]/ keys though, I'm used to all of those being behind the number keys (with combinations of shift and alt)
If it's bad enough, I recommend tinkering with Karabiner-Elements, which lets you remap any key to any other key, or combinations. -
@devios1 thanks for the link, now things are clear. Sorry for more questions but in terms of hardware, is there a diff between say, iMac built to be shipped to US and other built to be shipped to other countries? Here they import from UAE.
-
devios157707y@gitpush There are no hardware differences other than the keyboard that I'm aware of. Probably there are different default language settings on those machines, but circuit for circuit I'd say they'd be identical.

mt3o19147yYou 'apple key' fans wouldn't be so happy with that key if you had to use alt to type diacritics. Run an onscreen keyboard with all diacritics enabled. There are dozens of them! You should be happy not having to use them on apple keyboard!

Mac keyboard and mouse.
Fuck no right mouse button.
Fuck that prolapsed ass key. Why not ctrl or shift instead like any other system?
