As a freshman at a college, I am fascinated by the sheer lack of knowledge of Engineering Students in their fourth year. I had always thought I'd find more interesting people here. I'm disappointed.

They either dumb it down for you because you're a freshman or you should find a better college....

They aren't dumbing it down, believe me. And as for a better college, easier said than done. No college (atleast not where I live) admits students based on their programming experience. Even for CS courses, you need to be good at Physics, Chemistry and Maths. And pardon my language, but I fucking hate Chemistry. @luper

Don't expect anything from undergrads. expect even less from grad students.
Sad truth - unis and collages don't teach how to program, or even how to be or think like a programer.
You have to do it yourself...

Education system today is a total trash.IT students in my school havent experience using linux,not even a live boot.And then they code using templates from their professors.

You sound like an Indian. You poor soul. I can totally feel your pain. My dream was shattered when I saw through the reality

@magicMirror @RafD Agree 100%. We're taught all sorts of shit, but nothing that'd actually be useful, or atleast something that'd make us employable.

Sadly, some institutions only care about the number of "qualified" people they put on the job market, but this is also aggravated by people who only care about the paper that says they finished a course because they are constantly told it'll give them access to better paying jobs.

A friend of mine couldn't get into CSE because his PCM marks weren't all that great. Our college was nice enough to let him transfer to CSE at the end of Freshman year. He's one of the best in his batch

I agree. I'm a first year in comp sci and the final years are blown away when they see my projects. I talk to them, and they are really low level. Btw I am in a top 10 uni in the UK.

I think it's because many people who do comp sci don't have a passion for programming, rather they did math and science at school - they ain't no programmer!

This is so bad, that these days I am not sure that I want to tell People what is my BSC in.
If you want to be good at something, you should learn it by yourself, and invest time and money into it. Uni are supposed to teach 'how to learn' - but most fall into tge trap of 'good grades'/'make students happy'. And don't get me started on the high schools...
