Make sure you study the basics of cs. I've interviewed quite a few gamedev students for a gamedev position that couldn't write basic things like binary search. Many got very easy "no hire" decisions. My team hired more traditional new grads from regular engineering programs than new grads from gamedev programs.

Also at any point in time, if you aren't working on a game project with a team, start one. Keep working hard and keep learning. The gamedev job market is rediculously competitive.

Just learn the basic of an engine like unity3d, unreal, game maker, and create a simple game (snake, pong, or whatever). I really recommend that you use unity, it's very easy to learn it
