Why is it that with every Windows update the Edge settings go back to default?

I think Microsoft does this on purpose. I'd get it if settings were reset occasionally because they can't be assed to write data migrations so when a setting is renamed or the type changes they just drop the old and reinitialize it from scratch, but it happens on every update and thanks to the registry we know perfectly well that different settings are stored independently and a schema change involving one key never really warrants resetting anything else.
