A product owner recently joined the team and wants to run Google Ads on the website just to make a little more money.

We have 4-5 features already built that would have gotten the job done but he's focusing more on selling out user's data to advertising companies, and he put those features in the backlog.

I know I'm just a developer but I took the website development when it was nothing and put it where it is now. It has 8000 subscribers paying $19.99 each every month.

    I realise I am there to make the business a profit and get a fixed salary for it.

    The part that I am disappointed with is the work I put in to build something and take it off the ground and now its gonna get ruined by a greedy corporate sellout asshole @horus.

    Depending on the number of visitors to subscribers it definitely sounds like it would be more worth with features that can get more subscribers.

    And if its paying subscribers I do hope he will exclude them from the ads or you could loose subscribers.

    Personally I am ok with ads on a free site, I mean if I bother with visit they do deserve some income.

    But when I am a paying customer its a very different case.

    Depends if they’re pop up ads every 4 seconds that last for 30 seconds, or are just a small carousel at the bottom of the page

    Is it B2C or B2B solution ?

    I have questions, as it's a simliar load we have in our company

    @horus It's not that much.

    Remnove cloud expenses,

    Salaries

    Other tools like HubSpot (Costing 2-3k a month)

    Depending ona size of marketing/sales departaments, it's not ebven sure it's a profitable product (yet)

    @NoToJavaScript Its an app that students and teachers use. I cant get too specific sorry.

    But the product is profitable. It gets 20K new signups each week and the product generates $1.3 million a year.

    @Sid2006 Good ! 1.3 in sales ? or in profit ?

    If it's profit : BRAVO !

    Oiur product right now has around 1.2M of annual sales, with projection of 1.5Mil this year.

    But it's a heavy B2B solution, where a lot of personal is needed to cater to big clients. Only 6 clients represent 50% of annual sales. They need "special" treatment.

    But it's a fun mark ! basiclly, almost break even and 1-2 more clients and you can start having fun !
