There is this group called LUKI e. V. that advertises using linux at church instead of windows. First of all, I think it is a horrible idea because the people working at the church, based on my personal experience, can barely operate windows. Windows is just the better and easier to use option for people who don't know much about computers.
Also, and this is where it gets hilarious, their main argument for switching to linux is that it is a "fair" software (as in fair trade). How? I don't think Microsoft devs are underpaid child slaves. And even if so, how would you change that with a software alternative that doesn't cost anything?

    @mrtnrdl neither you have to do that in windows when you use it for "normal" office stuff. And when people can barely use it, don't confuse them with an os where everything is slightly different.

    In my opinion, both are easy to learn for simple use. When you start getting into deeper waters things can become complicated. As a Windows user I can find it difficult at times to do complete tasks in Linux (especially installing programs not found in the package manager). Then again, I hear the same thing from friends who are avid Linux users about Windows. So each to its own. :) :) :)

    What people very often neglect when comparing the easiness of OSes is that almost everybody knows at least a little of Windows and all friends and family can help. Also all advertised pc software is for Windows

    Why does the Linux penguin always look so depressed?

    @jobylie i think you're right, windows its better for muggles, i know there are people who can't install a simple program in windows(next>next>next> finnish) ... imagine them just fightin with apt, yum, pacman or whatever related with a terminal... they just can't or don't even try to. For some people every single OS its hard to use, imo

    @mystiksky because it's using Linux

    @Krokoklemme or because of the impending doom of global warming but I guess that could be another problem

    @mrtnrdl ok, but some people can't handle a simple installer, imagine old people or people that just don't have more interest in technology that use facebook or instagram, there are people who don't know how to change the desktop background image.... you can't ask that kind of person to know how install something because they really don't care. It's the kind of person that ask you to fix there computer because you are an "it guy" and you "must know cause you like that kind of stuff" 😂😂

    I didn't intend to start an OS war under my rant, but I want to clarify something, some people here already made this point: windows and linux are not completely different to deal with, regarding complexity, difficulty and how everything is structured. However, some of the people I work with/for have no idea how to do things like copy and paste, install something or set up an emal adress. When I show them how they can use ms word and say they have to use the mouse to klick on the button on the botom left that looks like a flag, I am extremely glad that they understand that after asking 3 times after that and they can do their work in word. Why would I give them an OS that does basically the same but looks entirely different and is completely new to them? Never touch a runing system! Be glad those people know how to print a pdf document!
