When are you guys learning new things? Learning on the job doesn't do it for me, i feel incredibly bored but most positions im interested require knowledge in AWS/Azure.

I thought about quitting to spend a few months on aquiring new skills and maybe work on some open source things. Anyone done something similar?

    I learned most things from my last job. Where a lot of things were inadequate. So looking up how to do things better we're interesting and has a positive impact in my happiness day to day.

    But I haven't done any self learning since I left that job. Felt I learned enough lol

    Most of my current job seems easy enough and doesn't really push me to learn

    @iceb Thanks for the answer!
    The codebase is an absolute mess and people seem to get offended by pointing it out (not so harsh) and seem to hate change, so I kinda gave up

    @ngCry Oh yeah in those cases.
    I would learn just to feel vindicated haha. Search for things like "strategies for doing {your thing}" or "{thing} is anti pattern".

    I find those learning sticks better because it's a response to a deep emotional desire lol

    All the time: on the job, on my free time. Well normally, that would be the case. Now it’s on the job and in class, since I was an idiot and started doing my master’s, so I have no free time. (Burn out warning)

    Honestly, during working hours is the best time to learn. If your employer doesn’t allow you to allocate some hours to self-improvement, you have a shitty employer. And if you want one of those jobs with Azure/AWS skills required, find one which has a partner deal with the CSP = free CSP provided learning, likely during working hours.

    Apply to those jobs anyway. Tell them you're willing to learn AWS and Azure. That's pretty much how I got my current job, because they couldn't find any experts willing to take their admittedly-low salary offer. I took it because it was a big bump from my previous earnings and because the only relevant experience I had was tech support and Python programming.
