Wow so my graphics drivers got fucked up in windows 10 and there's no way to boot into safe mode - because microsoft, being the intelligent beings that they are, decided to remove the option to boot into safe mode on bootup. Instead now you can only enter safe mode through the GUI!!!. unbelievable....

Does it still boot? Otherwise you can maybe do it blind with your keyboard.

Yeah it still boots. After about 10 reboots the generic video driver finally decided to kick in and i could repair it.

You can boot in to safe mode very easily Microsoft changed the access method nothing more.

Try restarting you computer or from cold booting holding one of the shift keys down. You'll be taken to the recovery menu.

Try reading up on changes I before assuming such stupidity.

@mortanius No, you can't do that in windows 10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...
The only way to access safe mode without a GUI and not enabling f8 again beforehand is to use a recovery image.

You can, you just have to know how ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Boot the machine and hard reset it while it's booting. Repeat 4-5 times. Automatic repair will come up, which offers a option to boot into the menu from where you can access the safe mode.
Not elegant, but works :D

@Kimmax Hmm I'd try but it's a laptop so there's no reset button afaik...
Maybe there's a pinhole somewhere XD

@penguin lol seriously have you tried it you still manually access the recovery options by pressing the Shift+F8 key combination.

Let me fix something stupid you said. Why would Microsoft make you have to use the GUI to access safe mode? Have you actually tried just holding the SHIFT key and click Restart at the login screen, or even within Windows?

Lmao!!! There are multiple ways to skin a cat thanks for pointing out one...

@penguin and your link proves my point idiot.

@mortanius Dude.. you said holding shift from cold boot, so no firstly.
Second. No graphics!! No sign in screen! gahd.
I would call you an idiot as you just did me, but I don't want to be mean to the mentally challenged.

@mortanius I mean seriously... how do you write both these statements right after each other and not see they're contradictory XD
"Why would Microsoft make you have to use the GUI to access safe mode? Have you actually tried just holding the SHIFT key and click Restart at the login screen"
loginscreen... gui...
also, shift + f8 on bootup.. nope, tried and it does, as expected, nothing.

Apologises for calling you an idiot. Apparently though older machine non UEFI shift + F8, shift or f8 will still work. Trying all three combinations on my work computer works. Also note fast boot is disabled on my work machine. My newer laptop does not, nor does my home machine from cold booting both UEFI. so yeah...

Well another way to trigger the recovery menu that should get you in to safe mode. Is the shutdown from the login screen three times in a row the next boot takes you to recovery menu.

Anyway good luck apologises again.
