Lvx0177yWorked late last night to get a feature in, wife was not pleased. Get up this morning and no one has even tested the new build, was not worth it.

azshliar2057y@Lvx01 ya that's the sad truth most of the time. No matter how much time you put in after hours it's never really worth it in the long run. Project managers say they need it now when it could wait.

RAZERZ26797yWell, that's why you shouldn't get married. And for me, I ain't, and I don't have friends to hang out with either, so more time for me to get paid faster.

WildCard9557yI went by "if it will take less than hour, finish it now. If it will take more than an hour, leave it for tomorrow. If unsure, leave it for tomorrow". The caveat for this was that half of my team was based in India (I work in the U.S.), so sometimes I had to finish what I was in the middle of because it would be needed by the India half of the team.

As much fun it is to code and create new features for users. Take a break from the computer and spend time with real people.
A few years ago I would stay at work to get tasks done. While everyone in the office would go home I would stay and finish some task. After doing that for a few months my wife started to yell at me.
It made me realize that no matter how important a new feature, a bug or optimizing code is family and the relationships you have are more important.
