What's the point of buying a macbook if it's going to retire after few years due to macOS compatibility with apps from appstore when you can get a good brand laptop and run linux on it forever?

    1. To build apps for any apple ecosystem

    2. To shine at starbucks

    @hippolyte

    1. I can install macOS on a virtual machine on a laptop with 64 gb Ram and plenty of cpu horses.
    2. Starbucks? hmm maybe

    @dIREsTRAITS you could do that but that's not legally acceptable. Any serious company you'd develop Apple apps for, as an employee, wouldn't let crack apple software

    Don’t buy Apple.

    @hippolyte I don't develop macOS apps but i use it for general use, i have different apple devices and they retired due to iOS disconnect to update... shitty company, however i have a computer with i5 32gb ram with linux, it works better and it doesn't get hot which is another surprise to me...

    The thing is, if i buy a macbook pro today I know that it will retire later which is a bad thing, they want you to keep buying and buying and that's how they make money.

    Since M1 specifically? Only Macbook Air. Performance is great and no active cooling = meaning no moving parts in the system and no dust and awesome battery. Great for programming anywhere IMO. Although for me specifically, I work with Windows laptop on work. I am kinda more used to that.

    As for compatibility. There are people who have Macbook Pros 2016 still completely working and with new software on them so support is pretty ok as far as I know, I'm not an expert though.

    Few years? Have you ever owned apple device?

    @yehaaw Yes I do

    i have a mac mini 2011 can't go beyond macOs 10.13

    I have a macbook pro 2015 retired as well (battery is dead)

    Also an ipod touch 5th gen with iOS 9 can't install anything as all apps require iOS 13 at least

    How does an OS retire.

    @dIREsTRAITS

    Your mac mini and ipod touch is about 12 years old and your battery lasted for 7 years, but you blame apple for that.

    > retire after a few years

    You’re a fucking idiot

    @yehaaw Actually the mac mini still works i use it time to time but I can't install anything as the OS is not supported anymore, for macbook i have to use the power adapter connected to it all the time and i don't blame the battery, it's obvious it's gonna die one day, and to be clear you piece of shit who use the f words, the macmini stopped receiving updates before that, you did the calculation from today minus 2011 ?Go and google when the macmini mid-2011 stopped receiving updates.

    The thing is, i have something usable and unusable at the same time, the ipod touch is working fine with a solid battery life and at the same time I can't install anything on it just because apple decided to stop providing updates on that model.

    Did you get something from what i said you stupid ass.

    Legal may frown. Finances will love you.

    In my last company, I requested for the oldest still working piece of crapple, just for show.

    My workstation could run 12 crapple VMs at once better than the actual crapple.

    And that is what I did. They didn't even care to ask for the crapple to be returned when I left. 😂
