I read your article, and I can try to elaborate a very short answer to the main question "why the only interface to virtual assistants is audio".It's a long time since they have a monitor, and SMS. These, are a form of interactions now seen as " active", such as have to sit in front of it and make time to. This form of active browsing takes the time to think. Taking time to think is taking time to reconsider.

So they found out that impulsive shopping sells more. No time to reconsider, just " I will ask Echo " and get billed for it in no time. This will work.

But your idea has the bright potential. That it will come in due time. Why?
Well lasers were a full industry standard when they entered the surgeons rooms. So were human-guided robots.
Medical devices has *a lot* of requisites, and use a device for lifesaving situations requires checks, standards and level of security thelat those devices cannot give you.

By coding in c# you are raping your processor. This should be illegal..

For a few points of your post I would recommend buying a few Hue bulbs and sensors (Smoke etc) and Code something up to make them blink Red etc.

They are expensive, but not remotely as expensive as medical Equipment 😅

Tbh, most of the technology is here, but not yet packaged in appropriate commercial products. (We had something like the safety baymax-esque assistant written at a hackathon in 2 days, which worked rudemently, but quite reliable)

And right there's the solution! They already have it... I just thought of it this right now and I just woke up.

So again I think they just need to talk to us... Being disabled, have to come up with a lot of life hacks.

Guess this is a ++ for the diversity argument.

@billgates i'm pretty sure that working around a lot of lifehacks makes you smarter! Still...you need to work a lot to close the gap of too many little thing. But my point was just...give it time and they will close the gap for you. It is a narrow market, so it takes more time (unfortunately). And still, a lot of startups are based on closing this gap through smart devices so if you have the right ideas...you might come up with something amazing

@-eth but the problem is, and kind of why I wrote the post, they don't even know about the problem.

If you can't identify a problem, you can't fix it.

I guess Tesla (all of Musk's companies) is a good example, they identified all the problems and focused on fixing them until they got what they wanted.

@biscuit well that's why I now use Medium. I've actually had a blog for many years (but never write anything that mattered much) but you have to find readers in addition to writing the post. Medium, if the post is good, most of the time, interested readers will find it and come.

@billgates yep, the one and the same. Check out essential.com, under the Home tab. It looks pretty neat, and may be 90% of what you are looking for.

@billgates scroll to the bottom of the page. He created a new OS called Ambient, and it has an open SDK. You can probably create some of the functionality you are looking for yourself. It would be worth reaching out. It looks like really cool technology.
