I was recently hired as a lead devops to a giant shit show. The CTO said he needs someone to do things correctly instead of quickly. This is a conversation I just had this morning

HR: We want you to interview a potential new DevOps engineer
ME: okay, when?
HR: Tomorrow
ME: I won't be able to create interview tests and materials for tomorrow. How's next week
HR: This hire is urgent! It has to be tomorrow
ME: Then you'll have to do the interview without me
HR: We need you to interview them because we've had a few bad hires in the past that we don't want to repeat
ME: The best way to filter out bad hires is with technical tests, which will take time to develop. I can be ready by next week.
HR: We can't give you a weeks notice for each hire, we are in urgent need for more devops.
ME: ...

Then you'll have to fire them a week later, when we have the necessary testing material.

Update: The CTO was mad at me that it would take a week to design a technical interview process! (I have other tasks to finish before I start).

This place is toxic as fuck. Red flag city. I'm already on indeed.

Testing just filters for people good at tests. Probation periods exist for a reason.

Also: Just interview the candidates. Most of them are humans and most humans are real bad at lying or bragging convincingly.

lmao, relatable. even I once lead an event in my college. even tho the show seemed a success. we all knew it was a failure lol this information stayed inside the club itself.

In this case, CTO means Complete Twat Omelett, right?

CTO: I want things done correctly not quickly

    Dev: Ok

CTO: WHY ARE THINGS NOW TAKING LONGER THAN USUAL???

    Dev: …

Fucking people that say shit like “correctly not quickly” I swear to fuck. What they mean is they want none of the consequences of rushing whilst having a task still move at a rushed pace. It’s like pick one fuck face this ain’t a candy shop.

@topsecret230 I don't. I need to do it once, then reuse it. They need to give me a week to do it to begin with.

    @lungdart exactly. HR is stupid

@lungdart Did you make this clear to HR? In general I agree they're useless, but I'll admit I read it the same way @topsecret230 did at first.

@alturnativ I'll have to work on my wording, because HR said the same thing and I did have to clarify it.

No matter, they ignored me and scheduled the interview. I took the day off sick (legitimately). They gave me 30 minutes notice and didn't even give me his resume or the job requirements... :/

Thats the worst thing. They dont give u time to prepare and yet in the end you will responsible for this hire if it gets through.

@alturnativ I understood everything properly from the beginning, my first question was directed to HR.
