!Rant:
Why did you guys decide to become a developer?

I became a developer after finding out that I loved wrecking my brains on complicated puzzles to keep me from getting depressed. After a while I figured out that I'm the person that needs to be challenged to actually be able to enjoy something and start to overthink the little things.

Here are the things I wreck my brains over on a weekly basis.
- programming
- research on complicated subjects
- magic the gathering

Not really a dev yet, but I started studying because computers have been the only constant in my life. Since I was 5 computers have fascinated me in the way they function. In addition to that there is no better feeling than to solve something you've struggled with for a while.

Not until my sophomore year of college.

I've always enjoyed both creating things and figuring out how things worked (I used to take apart old electronics as a kid). I'd had some bad exposure to the field previously; both my parents were devs so dinner time was pretty much an offline devRant, and my high school programming teacher was awful. I threw all that out the window though after that first Java class I took in college, I loved it.

I didn't choose the Dev life. The Dev life chose me.

I graduated with a mechanical engineering diploma, and upon getting a car the guy was asking me what I'll actually be doing.

And for the life of me I could not figure out exactly what I'd be doing, since getting that diploma was merely me wanting passing grades.

So I started to rethink what I really enjoyed because did that diploma based on a high school career advisor rather than my own choice.

Anyways I applied for the Bachelor of computer and information sciences, and got it, was so happy that I started researching what language we we're going to learn and spent a whole just learning java, I got quite a headstart!

That's how I started but I've always loved games, and always wanted to make games for a living, and during my time doing the diploma I tried and failed a couple times.

But here I am a developer, and happily working on my game in my spare time, though I'd love for it to be my full time job :D (hopefully soon!)

I used to be a nerd in school who can't make any friends. I used to read books of any kind to survive, including the course books.
One day I read a book on C programming and instantly like it (I didn't have a computer or knew how to operate one properly). I had to wait 3 years to change school where they had computers and before learning Paint, I learned how to program.

Due to few wrong choices in career I ended up doing a Biology course, did few jobs in finance, did my MBA and at the end of my MBA I realised that I can't do anything else other than programming. One of my MBA teacher helped me in understanding that.

That happened some 6 years ago. I am pretty happy with my decision to finally become a programmer. 🙂
